What it’s for?

After a number of years working as a professional photographer (it seems like a lifetime, believe me) and contributing to various photography forums on the net I realised that I’d amassed a vast variety of knowledge about the whole business of photography along with some neat tips and tricks. I also realised that I naturally had some opinions (which I wanted to share) about the way this industry is moving as we go further into the digital age. I also realised that a lot of this good information was being lost because it wasn’t readily accessible in one place. I lost count of the number of times various questions were posted to one forum and the usual suspects (me included) posted the same answers.

So I thought I would share the opinions, tips, tricks, pitfalls, common misconceptions, great resources and other random ideas about the business we call photography. Hopefully, somebody somewhere will learn something new or learn something to avoid the mistakes I made when I was starting out as a photographer. After all, isn’t that what the net is for?

What’s in it for me?

I get to rant a bit :) It’s good to let off steam and there’s plenty in our industry that deserve a swift kick up the butt now and then. I get to help others avoid being ripped off by publishers and their “contracts” which ten to a penny are just rights-grabs.

Do you make money off the site?

Yes. Via the Google ads. Ad clicks just about half cover the hosting fees for the site as it get’s a lot of hits. This site was not set up to provide any sort of income! None of the information I post is charged for – that’s all free to view.

This is going to take some time.

Unfortunately its not 2050 yet, and the machine that can plug into your brain and dump your thoughts neatly onto a hard drive while you sleep is still a figment of some mad scientist’s imagination. So I’m going to have to type it out. And I can only type with two fingers. So be patient!

I hope this site will eventually become a great resource for both amateurs and aspiring professionals alike.
